Smokestak - meat heaven in Shoreditch

Smokestak is a very cool place in one of the most vibrant areas of London – Spitalfields/Shoreditch – which is loved by both locals and tourists. I was pleasantly surprised by this place because you can find a lot of meat dishes here, all of them very tasty and at very reasonable prices for London. This place not only covers popular cuts like ribeye or fillet, but also offers other parts of beef, including bones and tails, as well as pork dishes.

The interior is very charismatic, lots of wood, steel and concrete. There is also a large oven near the entrance, where I think all the slow-cooked dishes are prepared.

First we ordered the starters that we want to try every time we see them:

  • marrow bones - my husband's favourite, but too fatty for me;
  • crispy pork tails in soy sauce - tasty, but a little tough;
  • beef tartare - very tasty.

Well, this place is not for those who count calories. Because most of the best meat dishes are quite fatty.

  • For example, pastrami with mustard. Very beautiful and delicious. After this dish I was already full, but we still had something to try.
  • Ox cheeks with anchovy mayo. Cubic meatballs made from ox cheek meat in a crispy breading. I really liked them - they are full of flavour and have a nice soft texture.
  • And finally, the main courses: 30-day dry-aged beef ribs and charred pork belly - both types of meat are very tasty, juicy and perfectly tender.

I would like to go back to Smokestak again because it is a great meat experience where everything is cooked the way it should be cooked.
